Larry Langford Sees SuperBowl in Birmingham
Newly elected mayor of Birmingham, Larry Langford, has bigs plans for the city in the sports department. Not only is he a big proponent for building a domed stadium in Birmingham, but he also wants the SuperBowl, the SEC Championship, a UFL team, a NFL team, a NBA team and a MLB team for Hoover.
A recent article from The Birmingham News goes on to say that Langford acknowleges Birmingham is a college sports town, but he knows we could be so much more.
If Birmingham puts the right professional product on the field, the community will support it, Langford says. He believes Alabamians are “spoiled” by treating college football as a religion and creating unrealistic expectations of Alabama and Auburn.
“I support both those teams. But I think we’re ready for something else,” Langford said. “Not abandoning what we have. But now we’re open to the real world.”
“The naysayers don’t believe anything,” Langford said. “That’s why their lives are so miserable and unhappy.”
Maybe the Dome is closer than we think.
