Langford, Dome Top Stories of 2007

Today’s cover story on AL.com features the Top 10 news stories about Birmingham this year. While the list features many notable stories including the drought and the selling of Compass Bank, two stories of interest on the list are 1) Larry Langford being elected as mayor and 9) the proposed BJCC expansion (Dome).

“After his election, Langford hit the ground sprinting and hasn’t paused yet. His major moves were getting the council to pass a 1 cent per dollar sales tax increase and a doubling of the cost of business licenses, steps that will allow bond issues for a domed stadium, economic development and mass transit.”

With as much press as the proposed Dome has been getting lately, I don’t think there’s any chance that Birmingham will not have a dome sometime in the near future. Many complain about the details, but I think it is simply a matter of desire. Birmingham businesses and citizens want progress; want to compete in the national market. Currently, the domed stadium is the best plan that has been put on the table.

  1. My best friend told me about this site. I thrust him, so I opened my Internet-browser and went surfing! After reading these news I was totally impressed by this article, even if it’s not true it’s written in a way that makes you believe it.

  2. My opinion is that this website is one of those, created for people with a low intellect level, with a stupidest points of view ever. Seems like only retards gathered together here, to discuss their retarded thoughts. Just read there comments! Man! It’s hilarious. They all act like kids in kindergarten, but kids are even smarter!
